A Haunting Good Time

Nevada County loves getting into the spirit of Halloween. There are so many ways to celebrate. Some go for the cutesy or the witty, and others still like the more macabre. At NCM, we crave the creepy and mysterious...

Imagine a vibrant and busy studio that was mysteriously abandoned 50 years ago. The staff all vanished without a trace. Some say it is haunted, others that it is cursed. For decades, this hotbed of paranormal happenings has been sealed off to the public until now...

Dare to explore the transformed NCM facility as we take you back in time to a past more spooky than you may remember. Enjoy a film or two, grab some candy... and maybe meet a ghost.

I grew up loving Halloween, not for the gory stuff but for the idea that we can all be kids and have some fun, if just for a day. At NCM, we have the privilege to take this a step further and run a small film festival to add to the experience. Three days of spooktacular fun!

We achieve this through props, lighting, sounds, and live actors. You will never know who or what is lurking around each corner or on which sets you will meet hosts from years past.

Nevada County Media is seeking spooky artists and filmmakers of all types and skill levels, to be featured. The deadline to submit your work is Thursday October 6th at 4pm. For film submissions, anyone can participate, even those outside of Nevada County. Films should be between 5 and 45 minutes in total length (including credits) and they do not need to be new films, but they should have your involvement if you are submitting them. Films should be of a horror or sci-fi genre, be HD quality (1920x1080), have good quality audio, and can be dropped off at Nevada County Media on a USB stick (with your name on it) or provided via download. While there is no entry fee, Nevada County Media must have the rights to broadcast and stream these films. Anyone who submits a film will be given two free passes for one of the HorrorFest showtimes.

Please don’t be afraid to submit your work. The real horror would be to keep your creativity hidden in a closet somewhere with all the skeletons! We hope you will join us October 28th-30th for a bit of fun!
